MARISA AÑÓN,
SPANISH (B.1970–)
Marisa Añón is a Valencia-based artist.
Añon holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain specialising in fine art conservation. Añon worked as a senior conservator for over 15 years across major European museums, galleries, government bodies and private collections including the Museu de Belles Arts de València. In 2003 she was awarded a Professional Painting Conservator grant by the General Culture Management of Valencia; in 2005 she was awarded the prestigious Painting Conservators Guild grant from the Culture Ministry of Spain in Vienna, Austria and in 2007 received the same award from the Culture Ministry of Spain in Liverpool, UK.
Her extensive and intimate experience working with classical painting serves to heighten her sensitivity to romantic aesthetics with a sense of pictorial lushness and a harmony of color. Her interest in colour, environment and personal narratives are evident in the textural explorations and emotional depth of her still life compositions. Light and nature are her inspiration, the colors of her work recall the Mediterranean coast where she lives, these are reflections of her identity. Añon is dedicated to her practice and paints daily. Her paintings are held in private collections all over the world.
