CHARLES RAYMOND BLACKMAN
AUSTRALIAN (B.1928–2018)
Charles Blackman (1928–2018); to celebrate his 90th Birthday The Charles Blackman Foundation released a series of never before offered images from several of Blackman's most well known masterworks. This series is the result of over 35 years of collaboration between father Charles and son Auguste in their printmaking practice using the only the best materials and publishing techniques available.
'Masterworks' is a highlight collection of paintings from Blackman's practice in the late 1950s through until the mid 1960s. Generally regarded as his breakthrough painting period, this collection of works was painted between Melbourne, Australia and London, England. Blackman garnered the revered accolade of the Helena Rubinstein Scholarship to live and work in London in 1960.
Six works from Alice in Wonderland through to the London paintings have been released as a part of this series based on original paintings of the same name: 'Blue Vase' (1958), 'The Presentation' (1959), 'The Drama' (1961), 'Dreaming in the Street' (1960), 'Dream' (1960) and 'Metamorphosis' (1957).
“I turned the silences and nights into words, what was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.”
